At a recent congregational meeting we made the commitment to increase connection and add direct support to our Bright Stars ministry through member volunteerism, creativity and leadership.. Many of you raised your hand to say you would like to volunteer and share the leadership load with Kim Grubb—including Karen McCune Barca who has volunteers to join the ministry team for Bright Stars. For the last couple of years, Kim has carried this alone, so this is great news. If there are others who might want to join the ministry team to offer leadership and guidance for the ministry we welcome that! Kim and the staff have the “technical expertise” for managing a licensed child care program—but a passion for children, families, education, community, creativity and more are welcomed. Rev. Tom will begin weekly presence at BS this coming week and will work with the ministry team and staff to build the volunteer ministry.
In the presentation Kim developed for the future of the ministry, we heard wonderful suggestions from the staff about ways we might support the kids and families being served by Bright Stars with things like homework support; bringing fun and creative practices and experiences of art, music and cooking; creating a pen pal program with kids on Pine Ridge; collecting resources for low income families; hosting a monthly meal for the families; leading a physical activity; the options are limited only by our imaginations (and the licensing requirements. Think Enrichment—and our core values!!
How might you bring your gifts or the gifts of a friend willing to help? The first step to volunteering is complete a CORI background check . If you can imagine yourself joining the Bright Starts Ministry now or in the future, please begin the process by completing a permission to run CORI form, leaving a copy of your driver’s license and we will begin those checks in order to allow you to take part with the children. Forms are in the church office (talk to Grady).
